Sports Nutrition

Nutrition is a very important part of exercise. To get the most out of any exercise you need to eat the right things at the right time.

What I can do for you is to access your diet by emailing you a Weekly Dietary Intake form and I will then look at it and see if and where you are going wrong. It does not necessarily have to be for a given sport. You may just want some advice on whether you are getting the correct daily nutrients.

I can advise you what will help you to get the most out of any exercise and what you should eat pre and post exercise so that it will benefit you most and give you the energy you need. Maybe you think you are already eating the correct foods but cannot understand why you are feeling fatigued or just not getting the energy you require.

A balanced diet requires adequate water intake, alongside food. The diet should contain these five nutrient groups :-

Carbohydrates
Protein
Fat
Vitamins
Minerals

Carbohydrates, Protein and Fats (also referred to as Macronutrients) are needed in greater amounts than Vitamins and Minerals (also referred to as Micronutrients) as they are used more widely in the body for structure, function and fuel. You still need the Vitamins and Minerals, as without these in the body, you cannot use the Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats effectively. If you think of it like this :- you do not have adequate vitamins and minerals in your body, then the Macronutrients will not work as they need these Micronutrients to be able to function effectively and to be able to release their energy.

I have an example in case you do not quite understand this theory.

Milk contains Calcium (amongst other things). Say that you drink a lot of milk as you want calcium in your body! You can drink pints and pints of milk, BUT without the correct minerals and vitamins, your body will not absorb the calcium.
